Leaves sprout, buds bloom, and twigs grow heavenwards when filled with rushing sap. And then each come to the end of their cycles and fall to the ground. In India, 'nature waste' or windfall is often burnt in full public view - depriving the soil of valuable nutrients and choking the air with countless pollutants and fumes.
But there is a way to turn windfall and waste into wonderful works of art through a process that's eco-friendly as well as highly satisfying.
You don't need any prior natural dyeing, printing or crafting experience to become a skillful Eco-Printer and create awe-inspiring works of botanical art which are wearable to boot.
Eco-Printing, or contact printing with botanicals, is an eclectic set of processes developed by Australian natural dyer India Flint that turn plant matter into stunning surface art. You can 'print' impressions of leaves, twigs and flowers onto fabric, paper, and wood.
This workshop will introduce you to the complete basic process, from the correct protocol for collecting 'natural waste' or windfall, how to identify dye-yielding plants, the laying of designs, 3 bundling and steaming techniques, and post-printing care.
In these 2 days we'll be working only with fabric (paper printing workshop TBA). All materials needed will be provided by Rang Malang Studio including the windfall/botanicals.
