The Tapi Project

The Tapi Project is a critically acclaimed, genre-defying contemporary folk-fusion band formed in Surat, Gujarat, in 2014 by lyricist Yogendra Saniyawala and vocalist Swati Minaxi, alongside drummer Gaurav Kapadia and keyboardist Biju Nambiar. Named after the ancient Tapi River, the band masterfully blends poetic, deeply philosophical poetries with a hypnotic sonic palette sounds and textures. Rather than making standard pop music, their raw, slow-burn discography—including albums like their self-titled debut and Ud Jayega—critiques modern capitalism, urban alienation, and the loss of cultural roots. Carrying a distinct Bohemian aesthetic, this globally recognized quartet has brought their boundary-pushing Indian roots music to over 30 countries, performing on prestigious stages like Glasgow's Celtic Connections, the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, and India's Mahindra Kabira Festival.
