The Spoken Wave Festival

"The Spoken Wave" Festival's next edition is all set to happen on 24th February 2018 at the five acre beach front of VGP Resorts on East Coast Road - Chennai, with the gates opening at 3 pm and hosting the creative genres of: 

15 Live bands

10 Stand-up comedy 

10 Authors

10 Theatre acts

5 Art installations 

10 Food Stalls in different Cuisines

10 Fun interactive stalls by artists and NGOs (From Chennai and Bangalore). 

Supporting Social Cause: Building libraries in orphanages around the city and creating awareness about mental health issues.

Dress Code: Yellow and Blue Beach wear to support the cause.

About the Trust

The Spoken Wave, is a trust that runs festivals, that connect all forms of showcasing and performance arts from visual to musical on one platform to create an exuberant network of talent, while supporting relevant social causes. We are showcasing bands, photographers, authors, theatre acts and stand up comedy in our event. It’s a festival to encourage a meeting space for people passionate about any form of art and inspire new creations. We also hope to raise money at these gatherings to fund relevant social causes we support at each festival.

BUT, WHY?!

Because ....its about time chennai and its brilliant art/ music industry is put on the prominent creative city maps of India. Given we have the longest coastline in the whole of Asia, reckon we should also put it to good use while highlighting the important issue that make us throw up our voices. 

 

CAN I TAKE PART IN ANY OF THE GENRES OF AUTHORS, THEATRE, STAND UP, LIVE BAND, ART INSTALLATIONS, SPOKEN WORD AT THE SPOKEN WAVE?

HOW DO I BECOME A FOOD VENDOR? ... OR A NON-FOOD VENDOR? I HAVE QUESTIONS!

Food Vending: Please fill up the registration nosh form on our website www.thespokenwave.com or write to us at thespokenwave@gmail.com Non-Food Vending: We are open to fun interactive stalls, as long as it meets the festival standards. OH SOUNDS CRAY!!! I'M A MEMBER OF THE MEDIA. HOW TO I MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR A MEDIA PASS?

I'M A PHOTOGRAPHER (FOR A BIG, STUFFY IMPORTANT PUBLICATION, FOR A HIP ONLINE NEWS OUTLET, FOR MY OWN BLOG, FOR MYSELF, ETC.). HOW DO I MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR A PHOTO PASS?

Photo passes will be distributed at the discretion of the festival, please write to us at thespokenwave@gmail.com for the same. We will provide syndicated photos from our on-site festival photographers for use. 

 

ARE YOU BRING ON BOARD WORKERS, VOLUNTEERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS/VIDEO PEOPLE, ETC FOR THE FESTIVAL?

WHAT IN THE WORLD DO I WEAR? Yellow and Blue- Beach wear for the cause ( you will know why at the festival) , feel free to bring along swimwear for the beach! Please try and have those two colours somewhere on your body that is visible enough.. we are trying to let you be part of something cool yo! Also please stick to footwear as flip flops, unless you have those wicked light up shoes, then totally that!!! 

 

AM I ALLOWED TO GO CRAZY IN THE WATER AND AIR WITH SPORTS? 

Hell Yes!!! But at your own risk other than ofcourse the activities provided by us, where all required safety measures will be taken.

 

CAN I BRING MY BEST BUD IE. PET? 

We would love that, but he or she needs to be on a leash or terribly obedient to your call. If they poop you got to scoop and no covering it with sand and pretending it's not under. Remember the animal police will be on rounds and if they find you doing so, you will be escorted out, maybe not your pet though. We might decide to keep them. 

 

WILL YOU BE POSTING SET TIMES IN ADVANCE?

The festival will run from 3pm to 3am with over 40 performing acts in the genres of music, theatre, stand up, authors and art. A sequence list of all acts performing will be given to you at the festival entry point.

WHAT TIME DOES THE FESTIVAL END?

The festival usually ends around 3am ish... give or take a few.

 

AM I ALLOWED TO BRING SLEEPING BAGS OR TENTS OR BEACH CHAIRS OR CAMP OUT ON THE BEACH?

Absolutely, but entirely at your own risk. Only till sunrise though. Once the sun is up, the cops will be on your case. 

 

WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ENSURE MY SAFETY AT THE FESTIVAL?

Security and safety are of utmost importance. We work hand in hand with relevant law enforcement and public protection agencies to help ensure the safety of our event. We have received the required police and coastal guard permissions and the concerned security personnels in uniform will be positioned all around the festival. There will also be a full serviced ambulance parked on the festival grounds. If any person is found misbehaving at any point for any reason, the concerned person will be escorted out. If for any reason at all, you feel uncomfortable on security grounds at the festival, please ring 9884321418/ 9840738100. And yes stalking and unwarranted staring at anybody at the festival will be considered offensive. 

 

WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE AT THE FESTIVAL? HOW HOT WILL IT BE DURING THE DAY AND HOW COLD WILL IT BE AT NIGHT?

In the range of 20 degrees we are told but please refer to the Chennai Weatherman... we are expecting a half moon to light up the sea. 

 

CAN I PASS OUT FLYERS OR PROMOTIONAL ITEMS INSIDE THE VENUE? WHAT ABOUT OUTSIDE?

No. If you would like to partner with us regarding the same, please write to us on thespokenwave@gmail.com. 

CAN I USE PASSES, WRISTBANDS OR THE SPOKEN WAVE NAME TO PROMOTE MY WEBSITE, PRODUCT OR EVENT?

No. The Spoken Wave trademarks, intellectual property, passes and wristbands may not be used for advertising, promotions, contests, sweepstakes or any commercial purpose. Our official festival sponsors do so with the express permission of the festival organizers. However on social media on the day of the festival, we are happy for you to post pictures with the #TSW. 

 

CAN I SELL MY [INSERT INCREDIBLE STUFF I WANT TO SELL] IN THE PARKING LOTS, CAMPING AREAS OR VENUE?

No. If you don't have vending approval from the festival organizers, your items will be surrendered/confiscated.

 

Terms & Conditions:

• Your possession of this Donor Pass constitutes Your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
• All Donor Pass holders must be part of The Spoken Wave Group on Facebook and register on the event page as "going".
• Donor Passes are personal revocable licenses and shall at all times remain Our property and subject to these Terms and Conditions.
• Upon purchase, please check Donor Passes carefully as mistakes cannot always be rectified after purchase.
• The Event is suitable for all. Children under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (18 or over) at all times.
• Please contact Us in advance of the Event if You have any specific access requirements in relation to the Event, otherwise it may not be possible for Us to meet your needs. All requests should be addressed to the box office at thespokenwave.com
• You must retain this Donor Pass or the festival tag given on your person at all times during the Events.
• Duplicate Donor Passes will not be issued in any circumstances.
• Your Donor Pass may be invalidated if any part of it is removed, altered or defaced.
• Where necessary, We reserve the right to make alterations to the published Event or program. Artists and billed attractions are subject to change. Our liability for the cancellation, rescheduling or material change to an Event is limited to the refund set out in condition 11 below.
• We will not refund or exchange this Donor Pass unless the Event is cancelled or re-scheduled or there is a material change to the Event. A ‘material’ change is a change which, in our opinion, makes the Event materially different to the Event that any purchaser of a Donor Pass could reasonably expect. A change to the artists performing at the Event shall not be a material change. The refund for Donor Passes equals the face value of the Donor Passes purchased but excludes any transaction fees. Personal arrangements including travel, subsistence and accommodation relating to the Event which have been arranged by You are at Your own risk and We shall not be liable for any loss of enjoyment or wasted expenditure beyond the Pass price and (excluding any transaction fees).
• If an Event is rescheduled or materially changed, You must claim Your refund in good time before the rescheduled or materially changed event takes place. If an Event is cancelled, You must claim Your refund within 15 days from the date of the Event.
• You agree that We will not be liable for any loss, injury or damage to any person (including Yourself) or property however caused (including by Us): (a) in any circumstances where there is no breach of a legal duty of care owed by Us; (b) in circumstances where such loss or damage is not a reasonably foreseeable result of any such breach (save for death or personal injury resulting from Our negligence); or (c) to the extent that any increase in any loss or damage results from breach by You of any of these Terms and Conditions.
• You may not re-sell or transfer a Donor Pass if prohibited by law. Where a Donor Pass is offered for re-sale in accordance with these Conditions, You must provide the buyer with full details of the Donor Pass. The buyer of a Donor Pass must be made aware of these Conditions and any other terms and conditions applicable to the Event.
• You may not combine a Donor Pass with any hospitality, travel or accommodation service and/or any other merchandise, product or service to create a package (“Donor Pass Package”) and sell or otherwise transfer (or facilitate the sale or transfer of) such Donor Pass Package for profit or commercial gain, offer such Donor Pass Package as an incentive or prize in a promotion or competition, or otherwise dispose of such Donor Pass Package in the course of a business.
• If You have obtained this Donor Pass in breach of these Terms and/or if You breach any of these Terms then it shall be void, and all rights conferred on You or evidenced by such Donor Pass shall be void. If You seek to gain entry to an Event using a void Donor Pass then we reserve the right to refuse You entry to or eject You from the Event and You may be liable to legal action for trespass. Void Donor Passes are non-refundable.
• We reserve the right to refuse You entry to and/or eject You from the Event and/or Venue in reasonable circumstances including without limitation for health and safety or licensing reasons; if You behave in a manner which has or is likely to affect the enjoyment of other persons at the Event; if You use threatening, abusive or insulting words or mannerisms; if you are found in possession of any prohibited item or substance; if in Our reasonable opinion You are acting under the influence of alcohol or drugs; if You fail, when required, to produce proof of identity or age; if You breach these Terms; or if Your Donor Pass is void.
• We reserve the right to conduct security searches from time to time, and to refuse admission to You, or eject You, from the Event and/or Venue should You refuse to comply with such security searches. No refunds will be given to You if You are refused entry or ejected due to Your own behaviour

 

Cancellation Policy

Tickets, once purchased are non-refundable and non-transferrable. This ticket is issued subject to these terms and conditions and the Rules and Regulations of the venue.
