The Citizens Alliance presents Sahir - Ek Ehsaas

Dr Rajeev Ardey is a physician by profession, but poetry and music have long been an equally vital part of his life. A gifted singer and an ardent admirer of Hindi-Urdu poetry and shayari, he has been especially drawn to the words of Sahir Ludhianvi — a poet whose verses could be tender and romantic, but also restless, questioning, and deeply aware of the world around him.

In this intimate presentation, Dr Ardey invites the audience to encounter Sahir beyond the familiar songs: Sahir the man, the poet, the romantic, the rebel, and the extraordinary lyricist who brought literary depth to Indian cinema. Through anecdotes, poetry, live renditions of Sahir’s songs, and carefully woven visual elements, the evening moves between the story of his life and the many emotions that shaped his writing.

At Depot48, with its intimate setting and close connection between performer and audience, the show finds a natural home. It is conceived not simply as a musical tribute, but as an evening of remembrance and rediscovery — allowing Sahir’s words, music, and ideas to be heard afresh.

Dr Anupama Gupta, Dr J. S. Batra, Dr Subroto Kundu, and Dr M. C. Gupta are Doctors by profession and passionate singers by choice, brought together by a shared love for music and the timeless poetry of Hindi cinema.

For this special tribute to Sahir Ludhianvi, they join Dr Rajeev Ardey in bringing his words to life through song. Their performances reflect the many moods that made Sahir’s writing so enduring — romance, longing, reflection, hope, and quiet rebellion.
