The Art of Natural Dyeing

Join us on a contemplative, practice-filled weekend to learn the basics of Natural Dyes and Mordants and take home a complete dye kit worth Rs. 1,500 along with your own undyed stole.

In this workshop, you'll be getting your hands dirty with:

• Different types of natural fabrics (cellulosic and protein) and how they react to natural dyes
• Scouring cellulosic fabrics and degumming protein fabrics
• Tagging cloth samples and organizing your shade card
• Mordanting processes - basic
• Finding, preparing and using natural dyes - 4 (+ one or two bonus dyes if time permits) easily available dyestuffs: catechu, henna, sappan, onion and/or palash, marigold flowers
• Role of pH sensitivity in natural dyes - basic
• Fixing colours to cloth for light and wash fastness
• Wash and aftercare

All the materials for scouring/degumming, making mordants, dyestuff, fabrics, and stationery for making individual shade cards will be provided, as will some tasty refreshments.
