Katherine Butler Schofield is a historian of music and listening in Mughal India and the paracolonial Indian Ocean. As a scholar of musical traditions in South Asia, Katherine has thrown light on many intersections of politics, society and culture with music. One of her research interests is the music of the monsoons across various traditions such as Hindustani Classical Music and music in Mughal Courts.
In this session, she will talk about the music of the monsoon in Mughal Courts and the unexpected relationships between the rain, its music and the emotions evoked in Monsoon. Her talk will be followed by an interaction between the founders at Immersive Trails, Chelsea and Tathagata who spend their time translating ethical research into immersive experiences in art & culture. Towards the end of the session, we will open the discussion for audience questions.
