The NITK Karavali Marathon is an annual marathon organised by the NITK Alumni Association, backed by the Rotaract Club, Students’ Council, TaskForce, NCC, NSS and CSD NITK Surathkal. The marathon was started as the NITK Beach Run in its first edition to celebrate India’s only privately-owned college beach, in order to promote a healthy lifestyle among the students and the staff of the college.This coming edition of the run, i.e. the 2020 edition, will be the fifth edition of the marathon and is bigger and better than ever. In addition to promoting #Fit India Movement, the 2020 edition of the Karavali Marathon will drive awareness to "Combat Climate Change" and call to action in Karavali region. The NITK Karavali Marathon 2020 will be a special edition as part of NITK Diamond Jubilee year celebration with International Athlete, Arjun awardee Arjun Devaiah as the marathon ambassador. More than 4000 runners are expected to participate. The unique feature of the run is that the part of marathon trail is on the scenic NITK Surathkal beach, along the beach side temple and lighthouse. Schedule:
1. 42.2 Km Timed Run Flag Off - 5:00 am
2. 21.1 Km Timed Run Flag Off - 6:00 am
3. 10 Km Timed Run Flag Off - 6:30 am
4. 5 Km Timed Run Flag Off - 7:30 am

Eligibility criteria for the timed race categories:
1. Participants must be at least 16 years of age for the 10km and at least 18 years of age for the 21.1km and 42.2km categories as on 12-01-2020.
2. Participants for the 42.2km category must have at least an official 21.1km or 42.2km run certificate 18 months prior to the race day i.e. 12-01-2020. Registrants will be asked to submit the timing certificate from the prior run, post registration.
3. Participants with health issues and pregnant women will be required to get a fitness certificate at least one week prior to the run.
4. Participants will be required to collect their bibs and t-shirts on 10-01-2020 or 11-01-2020 i.e. on Friday or Saturday. The distribution of the said items will not take place on race day.
5. All the details filled in by the participants must be accurate and any discrepancy in the application must be informed to the organizers. Failure in doing so will lead to rejection of the application.
6. Participants must bring along with them the ID proof that they’ve entered in the registration form, on the day of collection of BIBs and T-shirts i.e. on 10th and 11th of January.

1. Who are the organisers of the Karavali Marathon 2020?
- The entire event is handled and organised by a dedicated team consisting of students from NITK, Surathkal. The event is backed by the NITK Alumni Association, Rotaract Club, NITK Students’ Council,TaskForce, NCC, NSS and CSD NITK Surathkal.
2. When is the marathon going to be held?
- 12th January, 2020
3. What do I do if there’s any change/mistake in the form that I filled?
- Just drop us a mail with all the details in the ‘Contact Us’ section and we will get back to you as soon as possible
4. Will the registration fee be refunded if I cancel my registration, due to my unavailability on the day of the marathon?
- The registration fee once paid, is not refundable
5. When will I get my t-shirt, BIB and my timing certificate?
- T-shirt and the BIB can be collected on the 10th and the 11th of January (Location for the same will be updated). The timing certificate will be available within a month of the race day.
6. When will the routes by available to view?
- The routes will be released a week before the race day i.e. 5th January, 2020
7. What are the minimum age criteria for running each category?
- 5km – 13+
10km – 16+
21.1km – 18+
42.2km – 18+
