Dwarkanath Tagore, the grandfather of Rabindranath Tagore, the National Poet of India, was a pioneering entrepreneur. He broke the taboos of caste, creed and religion and had the foresight to establish business ventures with European and Parsi partners in the early 1800s when such cross-community partnerships were still sneered at. By diligently building businesses from scratch and investing judiciously he soon became one of the richest persons in all of Bengal, if not India and was referred to by his peers as Prince Dwarkanath. He was also a staunch advocate of science education and was exemplary in the massive donations he made for the promotions of the causes he supported.
On this Micro Virtual Walk, we will trace the footsteps of Dwarakanath Tagore through the places and stories associated with him in Kolkata backed by in-depth research and immersive storytelling and visuals.
