Context
Development & social impact work attracts a very wide range of talented & idealistic people who hope to make this world a better place. People work on important problems in sectors that range from water & sanitation to gender to education & health in a range of roles that span grassroots activism, community engagement, program design, impact consulting & investment, research, policy & advocacy, and even communication.
However, the challenges of working in development & social impact - that range from constantly needing to find financial resources, getting personally involved and impacted by the issues in the lives of people that one is trying to help, to flawed program design and "armchair problem solving", good ideas getting caught in red tape and never coming to life, or really bad ideas executed just because of the financial resources behind them - take a personal toll on tens of thousands working in development and social impact in India and globally.
Many of us working in this space might be experiencing a gradual "dulling of the idealism or passion" at one end of the spectrum and might be experiencing extreme stress, anxiety, depression on the other end. Yet, there are very limited spaces in which we can come together as a community to discuss this and find solutions and rekindle optimism and hope.
The Meetup
Dalberg Advisors & The Slow School in partnership with the Youth Alliance & Kavyata are hosting an informal meetup to get a frank dialogue started around these issues. The format will be very open-ended and dialogue-based.
To enable frank and authentic conversation, we'll be limiting participation to 20 people. Refreshments will be served.
