Join us for a two part workshop conducted in collaboration with MAP, Bengaluru - 7th October, 9:30am to 4:00pm
In this workshop - Cultural Influences in Art Education, we will delve into how Personal Culture, Spiritual Culture, Artistic Culture and Media Culture influence an artist's practice.
9:30am - 1:00pm IST - Morning Session
We will begin the morning session by identifying 5 artworks from MAP's permanent exhibition - Visible/Invisible: Representation of Women in Art. We will then discuss these select artworks in comparison to other artworks with the same or similar concepts to question why and how the artists' cultural experiences make their artwork unique.
The second half of the workshop will take a more hands-on approach. Our art educators will work in small groups to take their learnings to the next step by generating ideas for innovative art lessons to take back to the classroom.
We will conclude the morning session with an artist talk by a special guest speaker, Devi Seetharam.
Devi is an artist from Kerala, currently practicing in Bengaluru, India. She completed her BFA – Painting from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore 2011. Primarily a painter, she currently works with acrylic on canvas, using reductive techniques to create grain, texture and form. Thematically Devi explores the cultural psyche of the spaces she occupies.
The morning session will be followed by lunch and peer networking from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
2:00pm to 4:00pm IST - Afternoon Session
In the afternoon, Art Educators will attend a specially curated guided walk through of MAP, where they can take their learnings from the morning and apply it to the artworks on display.
This full day session will conclude with high tea and closing remarks from Sara Vetteth and Shilpa Vijayakrishnan at 4:00pm
Part two of this workshop will take place in December, where the art educators and IADEA /MAP team will meet virtually to discuss their experiences of introducing students to their newly designed lessons.
