Thirty-nine years ago, within the ancient pathways of St. Xavier’s College, an idea was born.
This idea grew, bloomed and blossomed into one of the biggest college festivals of all time.
A festival that started with the simple notion of bringing people together has, over the years,
bound several realms of talent and art while continuing to create magic in its own way. It
proves to be one of the largest platforms for young, promising talent to show the world their
mettle. It is a melange of diversities that come together to make and create what we fondly
call ‘Malhar’.
This year, we bring to you an all new idea: Malhar 2018 - A Time Turner on 15th, 16th and 17th
of August. A Time Turner is an ode to the past, a breath in the present and a vision for the
years to come. We, at Malhar, are perpetually changing and adapting. We innovate, ideate
and grow every single day. We are constant only in change.
The first day is the Malhar Confluence, the intellectual bidding of the festival. As the name
rightly suggests, Confluence is a junction of ideas, visions and experiences.
Neeraj Arya's Kabir Café
Every year, Confluence is also home to a light-hearted performance session. In line with that,
we present the supremely exciting Malhar Concert. This year, we have one of the best names
in fusion band for the concert- Kabir Café. Neeraj Arya's Kabir Cafe is a Neo-Folk Fusion
band that plays the poetry of 15th Century Indian Mystic – Kabir, in a substrate of Indian
Folk Music, mixed contemporary genres of Rock, Reggae, Pop and Carnatic music. Neeraj
Arya's Kabir Cafe was recently empanelled into the prestigious ICCR (Indian Council of
Cultural Relations) and is among the top 3 Folk-Fusion / Indie bands in India.
The F16s
We also have the F16s, an Electro Indie band from Chennai. Their range of music varying
many genres including eclectic indie, mad garage rock, a little bold alternative and
electronica. On the same page as bands like The Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes and Vampire
Weekend, The F16s also drive into the dance floor with electronica influences ranging from
trip hop to dubstep. It is certainly exciting to watch what they have in store for us!
At Malhar, talent of every form is appreciated, encouraged and welcomed.
