Gunwantgad and Dategad are two offbeat forts in Karad region near Patan. These forts used to guard the route toward Koyna nagar and subsequent route to descend in Konkan. Gunwantgad is a small fort with strategic location but no major construction on the top whereas Dategad is a bigger fort right next to Patan and has lot of things to explore. Fortification is worth observing. There is an interesting ditch on the fort top and there is always some water at the bottom of that ditch which has live water stream. Legend is that this water comes from a river which originates in Mahabaleshwar where total 11 rivers originates and 6 of them disappear there itself and no one knows where they reappear.
