What does it mean to take risks in traditional market ?

This week on Candid at Ciceroni LIVE, we bring you not one, but two Fashion Mavericks who are bringing in Fashion Revolution in India - Gaurav Jai Gupta of Akaaro and Jaina Lalbhai of Style Audit by Jaina Lalbhai. While Gaurav pushes the boundary of how textiles are created, perceived and worn, Jaina has been changing the way Ahmedabad dresses by bringing in motley crew of talented designers otherwise unheard of in the city.

Gaurav, a fashion and textile designer from NIFT and Chelsea College of Art & Design London, started AKAARO in 2010 with an idea to explore textiles in a contemporary innovative way. He has collaborated with Jimmy Choo, Duro Olowu London and Heimstone Paris besides prestigious Woolmark and Raymonds for the Cool Wool Menswear collection in India. He has won the Innovation Award at the Grazia Young Fashion Awards and Designer of the Year for most commercial collection at the International Apparel Federation Award in Mexico. He has many awards to his credit including being on the cover page of India Today. His innovative approach in textiles including weaving of Swarovski into the yarn has been hailed globally.

On the other hand, Jaina Lalbhai , a qualified lawyer who specialised in mergers & acquisitions and worked at Amarchand Mangaldas, risked it all to start her passion project – Style Audit by Jaina Lalbhai three years ago in Ahmedabad. Jaina has brought over 30 designers from all over India for her 14+ showcaseswith a strong beliefto change the conversation around clothes, to view them as an extension of one's personality rather than something with functional value. Her education in Fashion merchandising from Boston and Marketing from Harvard topped with her personal style statement added up to her analytical acumen of bringing in the experimental Pret fashion in Ahmedabad. She wants to revolutionize fashion, one garment at a time, such that effortless style gets seamlessly imbibed into a woman's daily narrative.
