Topic: Unmasking the Iconoclast: Breaking Barriers to Confidence, Assumptions & Self-Promotion

In a world that often rewards conformity, stepping into your power as an iconoclast—someone who breaks norms and challenges the status quo—takes radical self-belief, curiosity, and courage. This interactive workshop invites women professionals to uncover the hidden assumptions and internalized beliefs that block their confidence and hinder authentic self-promotion.

We’ll explore common cognitive patterns that sabotage visibility—like imposter syndrome, perfectionism, and “good girl” conditioning—and examine how our brains are wired to resist risk and change. Using real-world scenarios inspired by behavioral project management and neuroscience, we’ll deconstruct these patterns and rebuild strategies to stand out with purpose and pride.

Participants will leave with a personalized “Confidence Disruption Map,” a practical tool for reframing self-doubt, celebrating wins, and owning their voice in any room.

 Facilitator:

Ruth Pearce

Interactive Components

Real-Life Scenarios: Based on Be Hopeful, Be Strong, Be Brave, Be Curious, we’ll present case vignettes such as:

  • A woman project leader undervalues her contributions during a board presentation.
  • A coach hesitates to share her innovations because they “don’t match industry norms.”
  • A team member silences herself in conflict resolution settings despite strong instincts.

Participants will identify the assumptions in small groups, share alternative interpretations, and rewrite the narratives.

Belief Inventory Game: Using breakout rooms or chat polls, participants will uncover personal barriers like:

  • “If I promote myself, I’m arrogant.”
  • “I’m not ready until I’m perfect.”

Group Sharing: Short rounds of storytelling, followed by community reflection to affirm strengths and shared experiences.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Identify at least three internalized beliefs or assumptions that limit their confidence or willingness to self-promote.

2. Understand the neuroscience behind self-doubt and social conformity—and how to disrupt those patterns.

3. Apply a confidence-disruption technique to reframe imposter syndrome and build self-trust.

4. Create a personal “Confidence Disruption Map” to support continued growth and assertive visibility.

Takeaway Tool: The Confidence Disruption Map

A downloadable worksheet that guides participants to:

  • Spot the trigger (e.g., when I shrink, deflect praise, or downplay my success).
  • Name the assumption or belief (e.g., “They’ll think I’m full of myself.”).
  • Reframe with a strength-based affirmation or curiosity prompt.
  • Act: One bold, intentional move toward visibility (e.g., share a win, ask for a raise, post an achievement online).
  • Reflect: What changed internally or externally?

This map becomes a reusable self-coaching tool for every “remarkable and rising” moment ahead.
