About Sumit Lai Roy
Sumit Lai Roy has been facilitating Eyedeas that build brands since 1973. He learned how to grow brands in the 14 years that he spent at Ogilvy & Mather.
It was when an Eyedea helped a mixer ... coincidentally, also called Sumeet ... become known as India's hardiest kitchen machine simply by using a stainless steel jar instead of a plastic one, (circa 1974), and Asian Paints become Bengal's best-loved paint brand simply be instituting an award for the best "Eyedeas" during the Pujas, (Sharad Shamman circa 1985), that he became convinced that there were more ways to build brands than just advertising.
In 1987 he joined Lintas at Alyque Padamsee's invitation and helped him create a system that created "Eyedeas" that did not need translation into India's multitudinous languages.
After helping Lintas became as large as HTA, Sumit initiated his own learn-by-earning university of brand-building, which started in 1991 and evolved to become www.univbrands.com.
An expert on creating word-of-mouse, Sumit now lives in Kolkata and coaches people across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
In his spare time, he does theatre, (Founder Member, The Red Curtain), and serves as visiting faculty at IIM A, IIM C, MICA, SP Jain, Symbiosis, etc.
