The Border is purposely kept as primarily a 100 miler race starting from Jaisalmer and finishing at Longewala, via Tanot. The total distance of the route is 160kms. Also, the route has almost all the likes of any famous 100 milers and the participants are exposed to the elements of the nature face to face while fighting their own demons mentally as is the case with any ultra, philosophically speaking. It is a historical route of the 1971 Indo-Pak war and we wanted to organize it on the 15th of August but due to the permissions problem on the day. Why is it named The Border? Because the race route is close to the Indo-Pak border. It passes through the famous dunes, vast landscapes, open spaces, long stretches of roads passing through the remote and tiny villages.
Jaisalmer is a world heritage site that stands on a yellow-ish sandstone and is crowned by the ancient and uber-popular Jaisalmer Fort. The town lies in the heart of the famous Thar Desert.
Tanot is a tiny village which is quite close to the border with Pakistan and is very close to the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pak of 1971. Tanot Mata, a temple in the village, has got huge attention and has an interesting story to it. It is said that during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Pakistani Army dropped over 3000 bombs targeting the temple but not even one exploded! Some live but unexploded bombs could still be discovered around the region.
Longewala is a border town in the Thar desert in the western part of Jaisalmer district. It is very close to the border with Pakistan and is most notable as the location of the Battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.
Why you should do it and where did this idea come from (if any)?
Explained above mostly. But we wanted to devote an ultra to the Indian Army and the security forces and to educate the people about the historical importance of such places and the events that have got missed and lost in today’s fast work-life world. Also, the route is uber-beautiful that catches the eyes and the mind. There’s a lot in there in this part of India that’s yet to be experienced and learned about. We did it before and we thought of providing an opportunity to the people the feel the way we felt. So, here’s a good chance.
