SPCM 2021

The 9th Edition of Chennai Marathon, Skechers Performance Chennai Marathon 2021 is the largest sporting event in Chennai and second largest in India. SPCM 2021 will also be the first of its kind in India, following all covid protocol guidelines.

SPCM 2021is Organized by Chennai Runners, a not-for-profit organization run by passionate runner-volunteers since 2006. It is one of the few running events in the country that is entirely organized by the running community.

Originally started as the ECR Run, it was a simple affair. Participants would begin from a resort on East Coast Road (ECR) and run down 5 or 10 km, turn back and then have breakfast together at the resort. We were no more than 25 runners on the first ECR run. The quarterly ECR Run transformed into an annual signature event in 2010.

The Chennai Marathon is now the country’s second largest marathon and the largest sporting event in Chennai. There are four race categories, the 10Km, the Half Marathon (21.097 Km), the 20 miler and Full Marathon (42.195 Km) . We introduced a new distance/category Perfect 20 Miler (32.186 Km) in SPCM 2019. SPCM will be held on the first Sunday in January every year.

COVID PROTOCOL

The year 2020 has been a tough one with the entire world still grappling with the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus. Most running events were canceled and some world majors opened the field only to elite runners. The pandemic taught us one huge lesson that staying fit was very important to strengthen one’s immunity.

SPCM being the first event for 2021, Chennai Runners deemed it fit to go ahead with the event with stringent protocols and reduced number of participants. Having said that, the event will happen based on prevailing pandemic circumstances on January 2021, following all government norms.

The participants will have to sign an online covid compliance form at the time of registration and agree to all terms and conditions.

The Chennai critical care group will be our medical advisors and they will brief the team of organisers and volunteers and oversee that all measures are in place.

THE VENUE

SPCM 2021 will be held at the prestigious Madras Motor Race Track at Irungaatukottai, Kancheepuram District. The track was inaugurated in 1990. It is the first permanent racing track in India and is owned by Madras Motor Sports Club. The premises is spread over 200 acres. The track loop is almost 4km and has a width of 11 meters. The track is surrounded by lush green grass making it an absolute pleasure to run.

RACE CATEGORIES

The Chennai Marathon 2021 will host 4 race categories – The Full marathon (42.195 Km), Perfect 20 Miler (32.1 Km), Half marathon (21.1 Km) and the ever popular 10K (10 Km) race.

42 KM

The flagship race of the event. Expect a flat, speedy route and an early start in a month when the city’s much-maligned weather is at its mildest. Runners above 18 years of age, and have a valid timing certificate to meet the entry requirements will be permitted in this category.

Entry Criteria 1: Full Marathon in 6 Hours

Entry Criteria 2: Twenty Miler in 4:30 Hours

Entry Criteria 3: Half Marathon in 2:45 Hours

* Please produce timing certificate not older than July 2019

The maximum age allowed will be 60 years as on the event date.

32 KM

This New race category of the event was introduced in 2019 that has created a new platform for runners who have run many Half Marathon’s but are still not confident for a Full Marathon upgrade. Runners above 18 years of age, and have a valid timing certificate to meet the entry requirements will be permitted in this category.

Entry Criteria 1: Twenty Miler in 4:30 Hours

Entry Criteria 2: Half Marathon in 3 Hours

* Please produce timing certificate not older than July 2019

The maximum age allowed will be 60 years as on the event date.

21 KM

The happy middle ground for runners who have run multiple 10Ks already but are still some time away from planning a full marathon. Runners above 18 years of age, and have a valid timing certificate to meet the entry requirements will be permitted in this category.

Entry Criteria 1 : Half Marathon in 3 Hours

Entry Criteria 2 : 10 Kms in 70 minutes

The maximum age allowed will be 60 years as on the event date.

10 KM

The ever popular 10K event was a runaway success in every edition. Expect to see enthusiastic, excited runners across age categories rub shoulders with focused, super-fast, experienced athletes at the start line. If you’ve never run before, this should be your go-to event of the year. Runners above 16 years of age, and have a valid timing certificate to meet the entry requirements will be permitted in this category.

Entry Criteria : 10 Kms in 75 minutes

REGISTRATION

Registrations will open on 01 Dec, 2020 and Close by 05 Dec, 2020*

Each category will have a defined number of registrations and the category will be shown Sold out if the numbers are met.
