SOUL-SEARCH!
A group of five Delhi based musicians, Soul-Search! brings back an abundance of funk fused with
R&B and soul, inspired by the tunes of Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Chaka
Khan and others. The band has an exciting mix of sounds that people can groove to and reminisce
on.
Karan Mahajan is a musician, composer and guitar player based in New Delhi, India. He
completed his studies at the Global Music Institute in 2016. In 2020, he was awarded merit
scholarships by The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music (New York City, NY), The New
England Conservatory (Boston, MA) and The University of North Texas (Denton, TX). He has
worked with several local and international artists including Takar Nabam (Same Sky), Isaac Smith
(Sneak Attack), and Raphaelle Brochet and Philippe Aerts (the Piano Man). In 2016, he performed
at the annual Music Matters Festival in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as part of the Tarun Balani Collective.
In 2022, Karan performed at the Brilliante Piano Festival as part of the soul project “Everyday
People”. Currently, Karan is leading his eponymous band and freelancing as a session musician.
Gurpreet Kaur is Delhi based vocalist and performer. Having performed since the tender age of
ten, she is currently training with Sentirenla Lucia, one of the country's finest vocalists. She is also
a pianist and continues to practice psychology while pursuing her career in music. She draws her
influence from artists such as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Joni Mitchell, Ella Fitzgerald and
Stevie Wonder
Ravali Komanapally, originally from Hyderabad, is a pianist/keyboardist with roots in
contemporary music. Having had the opportunity to learn at Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music
from the likes of Gabriel Geszti, Raghuraman Ramasubramanian and Karina Colis to name a few,
it has helped her develop a keen sense of interest in Brazilian, Latin and Jazz Music. She is
currently learning with Aman Mahajan, one of the most reputed names in the Indian music circuit.
She has been actively playing in Delhi and is a part of various bands such as Footprints, RSVP,
Everyday people, to name a few. Recently had the opportunity to play at the Mahindra blues
festival with The Karan Mahajan band. Also being very fond of music education she is an educator
herself and has worked at Theme Music Institute, Eastwind Academy and Prism school of music as
Piano faculty.
Raghav Khullar is a Drummer based in Delhi. He was introduced to music at a young age and has
been playing and collaborating with various artists from the city. He has completed graded
examinations from Trinity College london and is has been under the tutelage of Mr. Manoj mavely.
He has extensive stage experience, and has played with musicians from several different genres
including Jazz, funk, R&b, blues, Pop, Rock Indian classical.
Vatsal Bakhda, pianist/composer, started his musical journey in Kolkata learning Classical Piano
under Roshen Gazder, LSRM with whom he spent over 10 years, and Suddhaseel Sen (Ph.D. in
Musicology) for 2 years. He continued his musical education further at Swarnabhoomi Academy of
Music, where he spent three semesters learning under Pedro Carneiro Silva and Gabriel Geszti,
both of who hail from Brazil, equipping him with a unique playing style with strong traditional
Brazilian influences. He continues to grow and develop currently with Aman Mahajan. He has also
had the opportunity to collaborate with various artists from India and abroad. His time at SAM has
enabled him to playing various styles such as Jazz, Funk, Latin, Brazilian, RnB/Soul, Pop, Fusion,
Blues, etc., and greatly takes influences from various artists such as Avishai Cohen, Tigran
Hamasyan, Shai Maestro, Brad Mehldau, to name a few. Vatsal is also currently working
extensively on his own music, and wishes to bring it out early next year.
