Seminar on Leadership

Jul 30 - 31 '17 | 11:30 PM (IST)

Event Information

Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring.

Yet, while leaders set the direction, they must also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination, in a smooth and efficient way.

The Seminar On Leadership aims to train individuals on the basic characteristics of leadership. This includes-

  • Building Confidence
Knowing what to expect and how and why things are done will add to your awareness and usually make you feel more prepared and ultimately more confident. Learning and gaining knowledge can sometimes make us feel less confident about our abilities to perform roles and tasks, when this happens we need to combine our knowledge with experience. By doing something we have learned a lot about we put theory to practice which develops confidence and adds to the learning and comprehension.

  • Maintaining High Character & Professional Attitude
Leadership character is about tangible behavior. It is what leaders say and do – regardless of what inner qualities they may possess or thoughts they may cherish – that determines their reputation and good name. They can learn how to speak and act in ways that reflect qualities such as courage, caring, self-control, optimism and effective communication.

The way you conduct yourself at work can determine how others will treat you. Image is created from a number of elements, including the way you dress, the competency level of your work, showing up on time and how you treat the people around you. Combining these elements to create a positive and professional reputation for yourself can be advantageous to your career, in both the short and long term.

  • Essential People Management & Interpersonal Skills
Successful people management can bring the best out of your team. You will learn some essential strategies for managing teams, leading team members and enhancing team performance. Basic management skills such as communication skills and negotiation skills will be covered highlighting the importance of knowing how to communicate more effectively with your team and how to motivate and handle difficult individuals.

Interpersonal skills are those pertaining to relationships with people. Interpersonal skills gauge how good you are at interacting with others.

  • Effective Verbal & Non-Verbal Communication Skills
Communication is a core skill for business professionals. Better communication enhances verbal and written communication skills, improving the quality and effectiveness of business communication.

You will learn techniques to enable you to assemble thoughts and communicate them effectively, whether in a meeting, conference or at your desk. It’s time to improve your communication skills and get your point across clearly and concisely.

  • Taking Initiative
Initiative has become increasingly important in today's workplace. You show initiative when you act without being told what to do, persist in the face of inertia and difficulty, and see your idea through to a successful conclusion.

  • Leading By Example
Leading – and living – by example isn't as hard as it might sound. It's really the easiest path. If your team knows that you'll also do whatever you expect from them, they'll likely work hard to help you achieve your goal.

Mahatma Gandhi and Alexander the Great helped change the world because they lived by example – and, as a result, they accomplished great things.

  • Making Effective Use Of Time
Leaders have multiple responsibilities that keep their schedules packed and overloaded with work. From managing the organization, to resolving internal and external issues with vendors and partners and looking for new opportunities, leaders are almost forced to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. Thus, it is essential to learn how to make effective use of your time.

  • Decision Making Ability
Effective decisions can only be made with a robust process and an effective evaluation of all the factors. We often find it hard to make decisions, particularly collective decisions where people and emotions are involved, which can all too readily paralyse us in to inactivity.

You will learn how to set the context around which decision must be taken, how to evaluate all factors involved to develop possibilities, how to assess each possibility against set criteria, to identify the best option and then how to develop that into a successful decision. You will also learn how to ‘sell’ the decision and communicate it effectively, and how to monitor the decision taken to ensure that it remains on track and successful.

  • Delegation Of Responsibility & Authority
Employees want to be challenged and given the responsibility, as well as the opportunity, to succeed. Delegation empowers others and is one of the most underutilized forms of professional development in today’s workplace.

  • Critical Evaluation Of Current Problems
The critical evaluation of problems is important for the development of leaders as autonomous thinkers. It is only through this critical evaluation that leaderss can distinguish among competing claims for truth and determine which arguments and points of view they can trust and those of which they should be skeptical. This work lays the foundation for leaders’ progressing to staking their own claims in an intellectually rigorous fashion. Learning how to analyze and critically evaluate arguments thus helps them to develop a sound framework to test their own arguments and advance their own points of view.

  • Ability To Cope With Situations
In the workplace being able to understand and deal more effectively with everyday challenges such as differences of opinion, working styles and personality clashes is a recognised and valued skill.

Learning how to deal with challenging people and circumstances in and outside of the workplace assists in personal development, professional development and growth of an individual.
