RHoK Hackathon 2020

Mar 13 '20 | 10:00 AM (IST)

Event Information

RHoK Hackathon is back in Bengaluru. It's one of a kind tech-for-good gathering solving real-life problems. Come join us on 13th March 2020 at Acharya Institute of Technology and be part of this tech-for-good movement.

Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) is a global community of technologists dedicated to solving problems for charities, non-profits and social enterprises by organising recurring Hackathons that has existed since 2009. The organisation currently has a presence in over 30 cities throughout 5 continents.

RHoK India is part of the global RHoK community. We are technologists and changemakers who are ‘hacking for good’. We run hackathons that bring together volunteer developers, designers and tech-savvy do-gooders to work with charities, community groups and social enterprises.

Problem statements proposed for this hackathon are:

  • Efficient urban farming approaches: Urban farming is a growing trend and its gaining momentum from hobby to a more serious approach now. Urban farmers need quick and consistent harvests from small portions of land. Solutions need to be designed to help urban farmers choose crops efficiently for a continuos systematic harvest cycle. Urban farmers should be able to harvest something from the first month until the end of the season.
  • Efficient digital learning in the connected world: MOOCs and digital learning platforms exist since decades now but they have very poor learner engagement ratio(<5%). Solutions need to be designed for teachers and trainers in rural and remote geographies to quickly create engaging personalized or targeted content with the help of AI. These contents should be interactive and audio/video-based. Solutions should enable the teachers and trainers to engage better with their students/learners, improve productivity and enable blended learning approaches.
  • Mapping information from implants to actions for Paraplegia patients: Paraplegia is an impairment in motor or sensory function of the lower extremities. It is usually caused by spinal cord injury or a congenital condition that affects the neural (brain) elements of the spinal canal. It leads to paralysis that affects all or part of the torso, legs and pelvic organs. Internal implants and external sensor-based systems are being developed globally to help make the quality of life better for Paraplegia patients. Limitations of these implants are they can only collect 4-5 data points from the sensors. Solutions need to be designed to make use of the data points captured by the implants and map to actions like moving a wheelchair, communicating with other individuals, sending
    messages, etc.
  • Smart skill gap assessment for Blue-collar workforce: Generation Z is more tech-savvy and exposed to the digital world. When Gen Z individuals look for work opportunities as a Blue-collar workforce certain skills are expected out of them. An individual is considered as a Blue-collar worker if s/he performs manual labour. Blue-collar work may involve skilled or unskilled labour. The type of work may involve manufacturing, mining, cooks, security, pest control, landscaping, maintenance, driving, etc. Solutions need to be designed and built for individuals seeking Blue-collar opportunities to understand and analyze their skill gaps. Job-specific smart assessments need to be designed where these individuals can use their smartphones and access the assessment. Eventually, learning paths should be suggested mapping towards job opportunities to
    interested individuals.

This time the offline hackathon will be from 10 A.M on 13th March till 8 A.M on 14th March and then participants can submit their final solutions by Sunday evening 5 PM. Best teams get an opportunity to be mentored for 10 weeks and bring their solution to reality.

Digital badges and certificates will be provided to all participants.
