Puppet Fundamentals course for System Administrators  Curriculum (3 days)

The class teaches students a best practice approach to managing their infrastructure using Puppet IT automation software.

Topics covered include:

• Developing modules/classes on a system that represent target systems.
• Using Puppet Apply to test and iterate modules.
• Placing modules on the Puppet Master.
• Declaring appropriate classes in node definitions.
• Triggering a Puppet run using the Live Management GUI
• Collecting and analyzing results in the Enterprise Console
• Puppet Language Patterns and Best Practices

Prerequisites:
This course has no prerequisites, but to complete the course successfully attendees need to have at least the equivalent experience of a junior Unix/Linux administrator.

Course Objectives/Goals:
After completing this course, students will be able to deploy basic system configurations using Puppet IT Automation software in a Master/Client configuration. Students will also be equipped with the requisite knowledge to take up the Puppet Professional Certification program.

Target Audience (Who should attend):
The target audience for this course includes newer members at an organization already using Puppet, or experienced sysadmins wanting to bring Puppet into their team as a new solution.

Topics are covered over 3 days.  Sessions will mix theory and practice, balancing 50% lecture with 50% hands-on exercises.  (In order to perform the hands-on exercises, each student needs to bring a WiFi enabled laptop with VMware installed to participate in the labs.)

In the Case of Cancellation of Attendance/Class

A customer may cancel a class at anytime based on the following conditions:

• If the customer notifies OlinData in writing that he/she will not attend the training at least 14 business days before the training, OlinData will refund the full amount Customer paid for the training.

• If the customer notifies OlinData in writing that he/she will not attend the training less than 14 business days but more than 7 business days before the training, the customer must still pay for the class.

  • However, OlinData will provide a credit note for the amount that the customer paid for the training. The customer can then apply the credit note to any other training offered within one year from the date of the cancelled training.

  • The credit note is valid for a one-time use only, and any leftover amount from the credit note (if any) will be forfeited.

• If the customer fails to notify OlinData that it will not attend the training at least 7 business days before the training, OlinData is not required to issue the customer a refund or a credit.

OlinData may reschedule or cancel the date; time and location of a training at any time, and may freely replace any personnel who may be scheduled to conduct the training.

Should OlinData cancel a training, unless such cancellation was for circumstances beyond OlinData’s control, OlinData will refund to the customer any amounts paid for said training or give a credit note for the customer to take up another training.

If OlinData has to cancel a class for circumstances beyond its control, OlinData will issue the customer a credit note for the amounts paid by the customer for the training that the customer may apply to any other class offered within one year from the date of the cancelled training. The credit note is valid for a one-time use only, and any leftover amount from the credit note (if any) will be forfeited.

Otherwise, OlinData is not liable to the customer for any other costs, expenses or amounts incurred by the customer in relation to the class (for example, any travel expenses, accommodation expenses or loss of business time).
