Polo is an ancient settlement established around 10th
century AD as a gateway ('Polo') between Gujarat and Rajasthan. Polo is a poem
penned by Mother Nature in the lap of Aravalli Hills. It is a dry deciduous
forest with diverse flora and fauna. It also has rich tradition and heritage
with the potential of becoming an Eco-Tourism destination.
The District Administration started an
innovative 'Tour De Polo' Green Cycle Race in 2014 and 'Polo Utsav' in 2015 to
throw a challenge for the participants and to experience shades of nature,
enigmatic culture and create awareness for protection and preservation of
environment.
This year, we
are organising the second edition of Polo Utsav called 'Polo
Utsav-2016' A Green Festival. The event will be organised from 9th
January to 8th March, 2016. The district
administration along with the support of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat
Limited (TCGL) has created a Tent City with
30 luxurious tents for accommodation, dining and a package tour including
cycling, horse riding, camel cart, trekking etc. Polo Utsav - 2016 will be a
good way to relax in the lap of nature and will definitely be a break from the
hectic work schedule.
The focus of
this event is promotion of Eco Tourism and livelihood generation for the local
tribal population especially the women SHGs. ‘Green Activities’ like cycling,
trekking photography etc are promoted by building the capacity of the local
populace.
The Polo
sustainable development model requires your support to encourage responsible
and sustainable tourism through this green festival Polo Utsav - 2016. We
request you to come to polo with your family and friends stay overnight and
refresh yourself and go back rejuvenated.
