'Offsites' is a series of curated interactions with SPA alumni who have chosen to do things other than building buildings. Commissioned by the Department of Architecture at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, sponsored by Jaquar, as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations, this series explores how an education in architecture prepares young people for the world in unexpected ways, and celebrates the diversity in lives and career paths that result from it.
At some point in our journeys at architecture school, we've all toyed with photography and film— not just as a means of documentation, but also as a medium for storytelling. How might an architect hone this instinct and build worlds which stories inhabit?
For Offsite 03, SPA alumnus Sidharth Mathawan (Batch of 2004) will share his journey as a production designer, screenwriter and film maker. Working in film and television since 2006 in multiple roles, his projects include Don 2 by Farhan Akhtar and Midnight's Children by Deepa Mehta, as well as over 60+ advertisements for leading brands like BBC, NDTV, Apple, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Vogue, Swarovski, Chivas, Toyota, Airtel, TATA Docomo, Vistara, etc. Besides that, he has dabbled in designing sets and spaces for theatre, art exhibitions, fashion shows, music festivals, weddings, events, among other things.
On May 11, join us at Monkey Business, a co-working space that Sidharth works out of, at South Point Mall, Gurugram as we chat with him about the instincts and externalities that have shaped his work so far. Limited to an intimate gathering, the interactive session will feature reflections, questions and answers.
The ticket price of Rs.100 includes refreshments and a special giveaway. Once booked, tickets are non-refundable. The event is open only to students and alumni of School of Planning & Architecture, Delhi. If you're unable to make it, we will also be posting our Outtakes from the Offsites here, for you to read. Please email us at hello@delhidallying.com if you have any questions!
If you are an SPA student who is very keen to attend and cannot afford the ticket price, please write to us explaining why you want to attend this event, and we may be able to find you a secret sponsor :)
