Monsoon Trail at Upper Kanheri | Sanjay Gandhi National Park
Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) or earlier Borivali National Park is 103 sq km of wilderness in the heart of Mumbai city and is surrounded by a population of 20 million people. It covers 20% of Mumbai's area and is home to all kinds of flora and fauna.
Upper Kanheri trail is a beautiful breezy trail which must be done during winters. It has a meandering path, with a gradual climb through the woody forest of Borivali National Park. The path leads onto rocky grass and euphorbia covered plateau near 2000 years old Kanheri caves with a splendid view of SGNP. You won't feel that you are in megapolis called Mumbai at all!
It's a moderate grade Trail and is suitable for age group 6 to 60+ years.
Itinerary
Meeting point - Meet at 7.30 AM just after the main gate of the national park. After assembling we go together using car pool. The trail starts about 10 kms away from the main gate.Trail duration will be about 2.5 hours- 3 hours.
Naturalist will point out interesting flora and fauna and stories around them on way. We will go up the Kanheri Plateau which has scenic view of entire National park and then descends via the scenic route through 2000 years old Kanheri Caves and then disperses.
The charges for the trail include gate entry charges, restricted forest area entry charges. Parking charges/ Guard tip and cost incurred for reaching till the trail point is extra.
Cancelling within 24 hours before the trail datetime will lead to 100% forfeiture.
Checklist
Backpack with snackbox and water bottles for yourself and your child.
Wear trekking shoes/ sports shoes with good grip
Long sleeve T-shirt and track pants/ comfortable pants, caps
Apply Odomos to avoid mosquitoes. Carry Odomos along.
Please don't carry chips or any food item which is crumbly to avoid dirtying the trail
