A PROCESS-ORIENTED MENTAL HEALTH WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINING RESILIENCE DURING TURBULENT TIMES facilitated by Rachana Johri, Urvashi Agarwal and Deepti Sachdev
What the workshop will cover:
1. ADDRESSING DISCRIMINATION: Identifying the several layers of discrimination and oppression experienced by communities marginalised due to gender, caste, class, sexual identities and ability.
2. BUILDING RESILIENCE: How can maginalised communities focus on factors of resilience and make the best of their personal strengths in order to develop and execute coping strategies that help in surviving and thriving in a society with their oppressors.
3. ALLYSHIP & ROLE OF THE PRIVILEGED: Discussion on how people from “privileged communities” can unlearn their privilege and collaborate with marginalised communities to create truly inclusive communities.
About the facilitators:
Rachana Johri is Professor School of Human Studies, Ambedkar University Delhi. Her research and teaching are at the intersections of Psychosocial studies, gender, disability and mental health.
Urvashi Agarwal is a practicing psychoanalytic psychotherapist. She and a group of friends have set up a clinic together, called The Psychotherapist Collective in New Delhi.
Ruchita Chandrashekar, who conceptualised the event, is an independent psychologist from Mumbai, India. Her work experience is centered around violence and post-traumatic recovery. An intersectional feminist by nature, her approach is to politicise mental health, integrate identity politics, encourage the destigmatisation of mental health in South Asian communities and the discussion of cross cultural issues through a psycho-educational lens.
