Mumbai Musafir is delighted to host you for yet another interesting exhibition of rare maps of Mumbai and rest of India. For the first time witness over 30 historic maps all under one roof. This visit will definitely impress you with the importance of conserving documentary heritage.
Get fascinated with maps that has never been seen before. A wide range of maps are available spanning a period of 300 years. Clumps of coconut trees, ambling elephants and a church steeple soaring above roofs make the Vue de Goa Map of 1750 is just one of the many that you will remember for a long time.
These ancient maps are put together piece by piece with a tweezer, a magnifier and even different kinds of adhesives.
Explore maps that were made not only of different types of paper but maps from the 17th century that were made on cloth and those from the 19th century were even made on wood paper. You will be amazed to find that there were maps on tracing paper too.
The exhibition includes maps with cartouches (decorative emblem) including Bombay by Bellin Circla 1756. You will also find another Mumbai Map called the plague map dated back to 1897 that detailed out the epidemic from the year before.
