King of Kumbharli - 2024 (Third Edition)
Event Information
After the unprecedented success of the 1st and 2nd edition of the King of Kumbharli and 12 consecutive cycling events in the last 4 years, the Chiplun Cycling Club, established in July 2020, is bringing the third edition of the King of Kumbharli event with a new structure and an improved version of it.

KING OF KUMBHARLI - 2024 (THIRD EDITION)
This is the third year of the competition, and it will be held regularly every year.
Over the past two years, we received an overwhelming response. In the second edition, we had more than 170 participants from all over Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, as well as two international cyclists from Russia and Great Britain who were part of our King of Kumbharli event.
To encourage fairness and excitement, compared to the last two editions, this third edition features an increased number of age categories, prizes, and a larger prize pool.
Additionally, to add excitement and maintain the challenge, surprise sprints have been incorporated for the elite category. We are also awarding a prize for the King of the Mountain (KOM) for the Ghat segment (12km segment).
The competition starts from Chiplun city, nestled in the foothills of the Sahyadri, and passes through mountains, valleys, waterfalls, and natural scenery.

DATE AND TIME
- Date - 5 May 2024 (Sunday)
- Time Reporting - Exact 5.30 am.
- Race Start - Exact 6.00 am.
- Last Date Of Registration - 20 April 2024.
- Limited entries. Registration link will be closed after predecided count of entries.
- Strictly no offline registration.Register only from townscript.
- Tickets are non transferable and non refundable.

CONVENIENCE.
- Free accommodation will be provided to a limited number of riders with separate common hall for ladies and gents (Limited seats for early bird registered riders only)
- AC Dormitory and AC Double bed tiny room also provided in discounted price with tied up vendor.
(Limited seats for early bird registered riders only) - Free One meal (Dinner) will be provided to all riders on the day before the competition.
- Free banana , mineral water, chikki, energy drinks will be provided periodically during the competition.
- Free breakfast will be provided immediately after the competition.
- A full-time cardiac ambulance with docot, as well as first-aid facilities, will be available during the competition.
- Digital timing bib to all the participants for accurate time and speed calculation.
- E Certificate from BIB Vendor.

- The start and end of the race are out of the city. There will be no or very less traffic. Volunteers are there to block the traffic at every stage of race.

Age categories for male
- 10-15 (Kids category)
- 16-35 / Open age (Elite category)
- 36-50 (Master category)
- 51 or above (Senior category)
Age categories for female - 14-35 (Women category)
- 36 or above (Women category)

- For Police/ Army/ Navy/ Airforce/ Govt officers (Male only)

AGE / IDENTITY PROOF
- For all age categories, an Aadhar card is mandatory as the primary proof of age and address.
- For international riders, a passport will serve as the official document.
- If anyone raises an objection regarding any rider from any age category, we will scan the Aadhar card's QR code using the official QR scanner (mAdhar government app) to validate the age and address details as and when required.
- For special categories, a government-authorized identity card is mandatory as the primary proof for your services.

- Note :- If any categories count reach over an above 60 participant. We will increase prize pool to

with 1000 Cash each - Note : - If the sufficient count of riders (30 Riders at least) for the any categories is not fulfilled, we reserve the right as organizers to either adjust / reduce the prize money or prize pool, or to combine the categories.
Kids category prizes - Rank 1 - 3000 Cash + Trophy
- Rank 2 - 2000 Cash + Trophy
- Rank 3 - 1000 Cash + Trophy
Note :- If kids categories count reach over an above 20 participant.
We will increase prize pool to rank 4,5 with 500 cash amount.
Special prizes
- Special cash prize for all the categories for KOM in 12 km Ghat segment - 501 Cash.
- Special cash prize for Elite category only for KOM in Sprint segment. - 501 Cash.
- Special cash prize for the first and only rider who finish the race of 29km before sub 1 hour. - 5,000 Cash as bonus prize.
- Attractive finisher medals / trophies for all the finishers.

RULES.
- Wearing a helmet during the entire ride will be mandatory.
- Motor-operated or machine-driven bicycles cannot be used in the competition.
- All traffic rules will be mandatory.
- No aerobars are allowed on the cycle.
- Vehicle support or drafting behind any vehicle is prohibited.
- Riders violating the rules will be disqualified and will not be invited or admitted to the next edition onwards.
- The competition will be held one-way only.
- Riders will be fully responsible for their return journey to the prize distribution location.
- As there is a steep descent on the return route, everyone is requested to cooperate with the organizers by cycling slowly and carefully.
- The decision to change prizes, rules, facilities, or the competition route will be reserved for the Chiplun Cycling Club.
- All categories must have a minimum of 25 riders. If the minimum requirement is not met, the organizer reserves the right to adjust the prize money pool, prize amounts, or merge the category with other feasible category.
- The organizer's decision will be final, and no one can dispute it.
- Four-wheeler support vehicles are not allowed; if a rider is found with one, they will be disqualified.
- If a support vehicle or rider is found guilty, or if a volunteer detects draft or fraudulent behavior, a warning will be issued on the first instance. If necessary, the organizer reserves the right to either disqualify the participant or impose a time penalty.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION OF KUMBHARLI GHAT
Kumbharli Ghat, situated on the Chiplun-Karad road, is considered a challenging pass. British authorities historically used this ghat to access the Konkan region, with Sonapatra playing a crucial role in showcasing the road. Over time, the Guhagar-Bijapur road has also gained prominence.
Goods from the Eastern Ghats were transported via bullock carts, reaching Govalkot port, from where trains would transport items like Mangalore kale, fish, and rice back through the ghat.
The Kumbharli Ghat Road served as a vital transportation hub during this period. Chiplun was a major market, and landmarks like the car park still exist today. Chiplun facilitated exchanges with Western Maharashtra through this ghat, which was its primary purpose. However, times have changed with modernization, resulting in significant losses. The area also faces challenges during the rainy season due to the cutting of black stone, making travel difficult.
Rainfall on the high hills creates a mesmerizing mist in the ghats after the rain stops, captivating travelers. This phenomenon, coupled with clear skies and fog, creates unforgettable moments for tourists and travelers. The ghat is increasingly attracting tourists due to its scenic views, sparkling waterfalls, blooming flowers, and fluttering butterflies.
