Play for Peace Session
Khula Aasman believes in the power of Play to engage children and foster relationships, build motivation, strategic thinking, and bring in a lot of fun and joy, thereby contributing to the cognitive physical and emotional well-being of all who engage with play – especially children. Play is the medium for all children to communicate with their peers through the universal language of laughter. Through the friendships they form, they see beyond their taught prejudices, build compassion, and find constructive ways of managing conflict as they grow into adulthood and become the community leaders of tomorrow. This is also a wonderful way for teens and youth to discover their inner potential by providing them an opportunity to work in non-threatening environment, and foster leadership skills.
The will play non-competitive, non-violent games and activities because our goal is inclusion. If a game has a winner, someone must be the loser; this can breed anger and resentment. While competition certainly has its place, non- competitive play shifts people’s thinking from a zero-sum, win-lose mentality to one of collective problem-solving, where we may find creative solutions to our society’s most vexing problems.
Objectives of the session:
To promote positive relationships among children
To create a non-threatening environment, free from fear, where children can experience the joy of play
To have fun!
