FINANCIAL PLANNING - THE KEY TO ACHIEVING LIFE GOALS AND DREAMS
"Life isn’t just about dreaming; it is about working hard and smart to make your aspirations come true. When has anyone ever accomplished anything by just thinking?
Thus, it is not enough to merely think that one wants to buy a car, wants to send his/her child abroad for higher education, wants to have a luxurious holiday with family, or wants to buy a house. All these goals can only be accomplished when people plan properly to achieve them. Also, proper financial planning for both long and short-term goals can keep one away from feeling discouraged, as one can actually see wealth materialize for them to make their dreams a reality.
Financial planning is a step-by-step approach to meeting one’s life goals. A financial plan acts as a guide as you go through life’s journey. Essentially, it helps people to be in control of their income, expenses, and investments such that they can manage your money and achieve their goals.
ROLE OF FINANCIAL PLANNERS
In this age of Google, anything we want to know is just a click away. But things like how to invest, cure a disease or even fly a plane, can't be learned with Google. Just think about this, when you have anything beyond a common cold, do you Google the symptoms and medicate yourself or do you go to a doctor who is professionally competent, certified, and experienced !!
Similarly, for financial planning and investing, while people may have a basic idea about the type of investment to own, most of the people lack insight and expertise that is best left to professionals.
In a few decades from now, India will have one of the largest elderly populations. What is shocking is the level of under preparedness of Indians for their retirement years. According to a Max Life and Nielsen study, 60% of Indians do not have any retirement plan. This is because they don't know about financial planning at all. Despite the misplaced confidence, financial literacy in India is still extremely poor 76% of the population is not financially literate, i.e., lack basic knowledge of financial planning, according to Standard & Poor research.
All of this will improve over time but only and only when Qualified, knowledgeable, and trusted Financial Planners handhold people in their financial journey.
