Event Information

The Files app for iPhone and iPad that possible to download in App Store and many others, provides a file system for iOS and iPadOS, and although it's limited, it offers some advanced features like file paths. File paths may be familiar to Mac, Windows, and Linux users because a file path tells you exactly where a file or folder is located in the file system. With the Files app in iOS and iPadOS, you can search and recover file paths.

For those who don't know, a file path is simply the address or location of a file or folder stored on your device. Typically, a file path includes the directory it is stored in, the storage device it is on, and other directories. They make up the components of the road. If you are an experienced user, you can already use file paths on a daily basis. Just like on computers, you can now get a file path on your iPhone and iPad that can be useful for certain iOS shortcuts and other advanced things in the iOS and iPadOS ecosystem. To learn how to get the file path in the Files folder in iOS and iPadOS.

Get the file path of the Files folder on your iPhone and iPad

We use the Files app that comes pre-installed on iOS and iPad devices. Make sure the file you are looking for is saved locally. Now let's continue the procedure.

1) Launch the Files app on your iPhone or iPad.

2) Make sure you are in the Browse section and select the location where your file will be saved.

3) Then navigate to the folder where the file is located and just long-press the file to see more options.

4) Now select "Info" to view all files.

5) This will open a menu where you can see the file path as shown in the screenshot below. You can use the "Copy" option by long-pressing the path.

6) Here. Now you know how to capture file paths on your iOS/iPad device. Of course, you can now paste the file path somewhere, but it's worth noting that it's not quite the final file path. Instead, it's a GUI way of showing exactly where the file is stored. If you want to change it to an actual file path, you need to paste it and replace the arrows with slashes (/) and make sure there are no spaces between the path components. For example, Chrome▸Downloads▸Sample.mp3 should be replaced with Chrome/Downloads/Sample.mp3.

Filepaths can be useful for very specific iOS/iPadOS shortcuts that capture and store the contents of folders. This makes it easy to enter file paths without having to enter them manually. Note that to easily use the file path shortcut, you must first remove the arrows and replace them with a slash (eg Chrome▸Downloads▸Example.mp3 to Chrome/Downloads/Example.mp3).

Mac users can also quickly copy the file path to the macOS clipboard, and there are several ways to do this, so take a look and find your preferred method. File paths are usually much more commonly used in desktop environments and workstations, especially at the command line.
