This session is about Survey Methods and Ethics.

On this first session of Researching Heritage Workshop Series we will discuss various methods of doing research about urban tangible and intangible heritages. Specifically, we how to use written sources, photos, paintings and maps to uncover hidden layers of urban history. The session will also explore how documentary and visual evidence can be effectively combined with physical evidence to create a holistic and nuanced understanding of the change over time.

The second half of this workshop will discuss ethical parameters in conducting urban history and heritage research.

Learning Outcomes:
1. Introduction to basic archival research method for accessible sources.
2. Introduction to how to read and understand space through old maps and directories.
3. Basic knowledge of combining visual, archival and physical evidence to have a nuanced understanding of space and time.
4. Ethical considerations for research.

Who can join the session:
These sessions are meant to be capacity building sessions for non-expert members of the heritage and culture enthusiast community who want to learn about conducting their own research into urban heritage. So you do not have to be an expert to be a part of these sessions.

The sessions are open to anyone from South Asia, who wants to learn about urban heritage survey methods and practice.

Timing: 19:00-21:00 (Indian Standard Time)
Session Fee: INR 500/person

Certificate: All participants will be issued a virtual Certificate of Completion after the session.

Tech Requirements:
These sessions will be conducted via Zoom. You need decent internet connectivity to participate. Please make sure to download Zoom on your smartphone or computer. You will receive a secured link and password for participating in the session 24 hours before the session.
