This Group will meet from 7am to 10am UK time online every fortnight starting from 22nd Nov 2020 until Spring 2021 (around 9 sessions). Online access link will be sent to all participants.
UK based faculty will cover topics that international students find difficult to address but are important for the success in FRCPath 2 Microbiology. In addition, there will be sessions by UK trainees who have recently appeared in the exam.
Topics included are:
• Structure of health system in the UK, role of UK government, PHE, local public health units
• Governance, risk assessment
• Policy and business case writing
• Essay writing on topics like operation theatres, water safety, antibiotic stewardship, starting a new service etc.
• Effectively answering clinical questions
• Telephonic conversation (OSPE) between microbiologist and clinician
• Infection control scenarios and governance in outbreak management
• Signposting to various UK guidelines, healthcare laws
• And…plenty of homework!
The teaching method will be less didactic and more interactive where participants will be expected to actively contribute.
