Velas a coastal village which falls in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The place is well known for its beaches which reflect nature in its best preserved and pristine form. Besides Velas beach, here are several other tourist attractions at Velas including the Bankot Fort and the Harihareshwar Temple. However, of lately, Velas has been attracting nature lovers and travellers more for its Velas turtle festival, Maharashtra than anything else. Hundreds of Olive Ridley Turtles, one of the most treasured species of marine turtles, come ashore at Velas beach for breeding and lay hundreds of eggs. Witnessing a baby turtle coming out of the egg and then finding its way to the sea by those baby steps is an unforgettable moment.

1. Accommodation in homestay/Dormitory sharing basis. (Velas is an eco-tourism village and separate rooms / hotel accommodation is not available)

Itinerary:

DAY-1 (Saturday)

12:00 AM - Assemble at Dadar Pritam hotel

12:30 AM - Start journey towards Velas by Private vehicle

05:00 AM - Reach Velas and freshen up have breakfast at village

07:00 AM - Visit Velas beach to witness those tiny turtle taking their first step.

08:00 AM - Post sightings, briefing session about Olive Ridley Turtle and fight for their existence.

09:00 AM - Head towards homestay unpack you bags.

10:00 AM - Proceed to visit Bankot Fort which is well known for its history and breathtaking view of Velas beach and Harihareshwar Temple.

01:00 PM - Head towards velas & have lunch(Post lunch rest till evening)

06:00 PM - Enjoy the group games, stories and experiences to be shared till dinner. Dinner and rest.

 

DAY-2 (Sunday)

06:00 AM - Wake up freshen up & hope sighting those baby turtle again

08:00 AM - Post sighting session have breakfast & leave for Harihareshwar.

12:00 PM – Have lunch & leave for Mumbai with lots of beautiful memories.

 

Thisngs To Carry :

• Snacks for interim & Water bottle [at least 2 litres] while travelling compulsory.

• Good trekking shoes, socks, slippers, etc

• Windcheater, Rain coats, Poncho, etc

• Energizers (Electral / Glucon-D) and personal medication (if any).

• Camera (Optional).

• Please do carry a change of clothes with you.
