Event Information

Change the way you see Your Country & see the Change in Your Country – this purposeful & soulful thought is being beautifully woven into the minds & hearts of the audience through DRISHTI, since 2007.
The play takes a look at the culture and heritage of India and in turn guides the audience to look at their country as their motherland, as their MOTHER. This patriotic play tells its story from 4 different perspectives.

Muthulakshmi, an adopted daughter of Mrs. Maniammal, grows up going to the Govt. Girls High School during the day & helping her mother sell second hand books by the beach during the evenings. She is so passionate about reading books that with a book in hand she would never know how time passed by. Reading WINGS OF FIRE by Dr. APJ. Abdul Kalaam ignites her soul and sets her on the journey to restore the dignity of her new found mother, MOTHERLAND.

Suzzane, who has a dream of flying out the country very soon, helps her father run the Sea View Kiosk by the beach. With both their business set up located in the same part of the beach, this contrasting duo land up in some eye opening arguments.

Kalyani, the beach sweeper’s daughter is motivated by Muthulakshmi to write the scholarship exam for admission into an English medium school. Kalyani dreams of growing up to serve the nation like many able leaders and social activists.

Priya, the only daughter of Non Resident Indians, Venkatesh & Ranjani, through her stay in India during the last 3 years, has begun to recognize her roots and wishes to live in India for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, her father’s work contract in India is over and they have to return back to the US next week.

The second half of the story revolves around how these groups bump into each other and what happens thereafter.
