CELEBRATING AMBADAS - Exhibition of paintings of artist Ambadas Khobragade on his birth centenary

The exhibition ‘Celebrating Ambadas’ is a tribute to one of the great masters of Indian modern art, Ambadas Khobragade. As a tribute to him on his birth centenary, the exhibition is a unique collaboration between the Ushaarth Art Foundation and the India International Centre, Delhi, in association with Dhoomimal Gallery and Prayag Shukla.

The show includes paintings and drawings spanning seven decades of the artists' practice. Also on display are personal letters, photographs, old catalogues and writings related to Ambadas and his work.

Ambadas Khobragade, India's master abstractionist was born in Telegaon, Maharashtra on 12th July 1922. He received his Diploma in Art from the Sir J. J. School of Art in 1952 where artists Mohan Samant, Tyeb Mehta and Akbar Padamsee were his classmates.

One of the Founding members of Group 1890, he received the Bombay Art Society Gold Medal in 1962 and the Lalit Kala Academy National Award in 1963.

Ambadas migrated to Norway in 1972, after his marriage to Norwegian Hege Backe, and continued to exhibit widely in Europe and in India.
