Outside, the first sun rays break the dawn. Sixteen years old Catarina can't fall asleep. Inconsequently, in the big city adults are moved by desire... Catarina found she is HIV positive. She wants to drag everyone else along.

"Catarina e os Outros" or "Catarina and the others" is a Portuguese, Portuguese-language movie from 2011, so this one is approaching its 10th anniversary now and this award-nominated piece was written and directed by André Badalo. It runs for 15 minutes and at the center of it all is the title character played by Victoria Guerra. we see her early on in her room before she leaves and goes out into a night of unprotected sex that shall not end that night. First one man at a dance club, then a much older guy, then a couple and finally 3 people who pick her up in their car. Why does she do all that if it clearly isn't for fun as she looks kinda sad and emotionless during intercourse permanently. Well, you get the answer at the very end when an important phone call awaits the protagonist. Or you also get it if you read the plot summary here which sadly offers a huge spoiler and boo on whoever uploaded it. Anyway, with the final revelation, there is of course a big issue with moral as she is clearly finding herself in the role of something along the lines of an angel of death out on a mission to punish those who act just as foolishly as she did in the past and what resulted in her illness. Overall, a good little film, elevated by the ending and of course by the protagonist's acting as well as looks. She may have been the most stunning blonde South European/American I have come across since Shakira and Chiara Iezzi. All in all, not a great film, but for a quarter of an hour it certainly works I would say. Good watch and I give it a thumbs-up. Go check it out and don#t trust hardcore feminists blindly hating on this film probably without even having seen it.
