Event Information

Creator, provider, nurturer, protector, cheerleader, innovator, boss, seductress, goddess—women have juggled many hats throughout history. Today’s woman is no different, despite the brutal judgments that she’s faced with each day. Last year, Sunday Secret Sessions (SSS) was proud to present Bravo Women—a celebration of women, especially in the arts, focusing on the themes of unity and love—in keeping with the UN’s campaign theme of #BalanceforBetter, a call-to-action for driving gender balance across the world. This year we are once again proud to bring to you a few of Ahmedabad’s upcoming and bold female lead bands.
Created and powered by Sunday Secret Sessions and SSS Vocal Classes, to be held at The Footlights Theatre—both led by women, incidentally— ‘Bravo Women’ is women tipping their hats to each other, for everything they’ve accomplished in a male-dominated world. From sponsoring to promoting and entertaining, Bravo Women is proof that great things happen when strong women come together. It’s also a nod to the men who support women and acknowledge their varied achievements.
The event will feature performances by some of Ahmedabad’s many impressive women in music. Bravo Women will also felicitate about 30 women for their consistent support and contributions towards Ahmedabad’s music scene.
Performers:
Constance “Nana” Lewin: Harmonica player (our oldest performer at 87 years old)
Anoushka Roberts
Debolina Garani
Tshering Bhutia: Vocals (of the band Teen Spirit)
Reema Gadani (of the band Radio Shackk)
Vaibhavi Rani: Vocals (of the band Legally Blues)
Vijayalakshmi (Viju) Puli (of the college band Corpus Rock)
Nicolette Gore: Founder of Sunday Secret Sessions, SSS Vocal Classes and creator of the Bravo Women initiative
About SSS: The brainchild of Ahmedabad's first female drummer - and now multi-instrumentalist and voice coach Nicolette Gore, SSS was launched as “an artist accelerator platform aimed at achieving a self-sustaining ecosystem that will empower, as well as ensconce artists amidst a music-loving audience,” according to its Twitter bio. It also calls itself an “underground community” of musicians (and music lovers) dedicated to art for art’s sake (or music for music’s sake) and focuses on community-building by garnering support for local artists.
Bravo Women 2.0 is the latest edition of ‘Bravo Women’ a first-of-its-kind event from SSS, which had previously large-scale events such as the Second Anniversary edition June 2019, Spirit of Woodstock in August 2018, World Music Day #Rockout in June 2018, Ballads of Nostalgia (Glasgow, Scotland) in April 2018 and ‘aMUSEd’ a music education expo in November 2017 and most recent being the International Blind Improvisation Orchestra (Israel) and Raffaele Matta Trio (Italy).
About Women’s Day: The first Women's Day was observed on 28 February 1909, in New York, by the Socialist Party of America. The next year, the International Socialist Woman’s Conference suggested that Women’s Day be held annually. It was adopted by the UN in 1975, under the name International Women’s Day.
