Event Information

Bhutan - a wonderful country that lies between India and China. It is perched at an average elevation of 7,500 feet above sea level in the Eastern Himalayas. It is a little Himalayan kingdom, but its roots are so strong. The government and the people of Bhutan preserved the culture very well. The best thing about Bhutan is that it has strong relations with its neighbors, especially with India. India and Bhutan both countries are like dearest friends. They are sharing good relations for a long time from their existence after independence from British Colonization. Both countries share a 699 kilometers long border and there are not any kind of conflicts reported till now between them. It is proof of a strong relationship.
Bhutan opened itself in the year of 1960 for the outside world. The tourism industry was initiated in the year 1974. The initial motives behind this were generating revenue, foreign exchange, publicizing the culture of Bhutan to the world and economic development of the country. In 1974 only 287 tourists visited Bhutan and in 1999 the number was 7000. The government of Bhutan realized that the crowd of tourists will not be good to maintain the dignity of the culture and places of the country. So they decided and imposed the rule of - “High Value, Low Volume”. Now things are changed after imposing this rule. Bhutan achieved the goal of sustainable tourism. There you will find that all the things related to culture, environment, and society are up to the mark. The revenue generated by tourism goes for the development of education, tourism and for the development of the nation. Another interesting thing is the Gross Happiness Index. Bhutan is the only country that believes in GHI for its citizens.
Bhutan is called the Land of Thunder Dragon due to the Drukpa Kings. The Kingdom is in a local language called Druk -Yul. The area of the country in square kilometers is 38,394 which is smaller in comparison to Switzerland. In terms of ethnic groups, there are 3 which are Tshanglas, Ngalops, and Lhotshampas. Dzongkha is the official language and very close to Nepali and Tibetan. Thimpu is the capital of Bhutan and the largest city of Bhutan with all modern facilities. The one and only international airport are at Paro, which is called Paro Airport and the official airline is Druk Air. The main educational institutes are The Centre for Bhutan Studies, Royal Bhutan Institute of Technology, Royal University of Bhutan.
