Event Information
Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) consists of a unique set of detectors, which opens a new window to the Universe. Detection of Gravitational Waves and their electromagnetic counterparts has revolutionized astrophysics in the recent years leading to several ground breaking discoveries. One such detector, LIGO-India, is planned to be built on Indian soil to augment the global network of gravitational wave detectors. A brief introduction to how these extraordinary instruments work and the scientific and technological opportunities provided by LIGO-India to the Indian students, academia and industry would be highlighted.
