In colonial Calcutta, the Victorian period - long known for scientific progress and a strict moral code - overlaps with the flourishing of education and literature commonly called the Bengal Renaissance. This walk explores Calcutta's unique Victorian social milieu created through the peculiar mixing of Victorian values, scientific and medical experimentation, and early Nationalist thought.
Come with us to explore a maze of alleyways in the Bowbazar area of Calcutta, where we will discover places associated with artistic innovations, scientific advocacy, argumentative newspapers, true crime writing, and early Nationalist organization.
The walk will be conducted via zoom. Participation link will be shared with all those who have registered 24 hours before the tour via email.
Timing: 19:00-21:30 (IST) | 14:30-17:00 (UK) | 9:30-12:00 (US-Eastern)
