Event Announcement
We, the Royal Runners Club Calicut, are thrilled to announce Season 4 of the Vayalada Ultra Trail Run, taking place on Sunday, 14th December 2025 at Vayalada Hill Station. This marks the fourth edition of our flagship ultra trail event, following the successful Season 3 held on 15th December 2024.This race also stands as the only ultra trail event of its kind in Northern Kerala, conducted in collaboration with the Responsible Vayalada Group and the local community.
We are proud to share that the event received ITRA Certification in 2024 and is officially listed on the ITRA website. Starting from 2025, the Vayalada Ultra Trail Run is also part of the prestigious South India Trail Grail (SITG).
Race Categories & Elevation
60 KM – Elevation gain of 3200+ meters
30 KM – Elevation gain of 1800+ meters
We believe this will be a true litmus test, even for seasoned ultra runners.
Both categories will flag off from Balusseri High School, a township at the base of Vayalada Hill Station. (Flag-off timing will be announced closer to the event.)

3.Thorad Waterfalls
4.Vayalada View Point
5.Mangayam Hills
6.Kinaloor Estate
7.Cheedikkuzhi Hills
8.Manicheri Hills...….and finishes at the summit of the majestic Vayalada Peak.
Why Vayalada?
Vayalada Hills, an extension of the Western Ghats reaching westward, offer a unique mountain running experience without major wildlife interference. The course features:

How to reach
By Road: Vayalada is 42 Km from the nearest city of Kozhikode, alias Calicut, famous for its wonderful food culture. There are frequent public transportation services from Calicut city to Balussery, the major township near the starting point.
By Train: Calicut is well connected by rail with all parts of the country. All there are direct trains from the metros like Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai. A runner can easily get off the station and take a bus to Balussery after enjoying the local cuisines.
By Air: An international airport in Calicut also connects domestic airports. It is located 55km, approximately, away from the starting point.
The event
Royal Runners Club, based in Calicut, is a prominent running community in Malabar, North Kerala. The club produces raw talents they made telling impacts on numerous marathons in the country. The club successfully conducted various marathon events in the past.
As a pioneering ultra trail running event in Northern Kerala, the event is conducted in two categories, 60 km and 30 km and both categories offer a minimum of 1800 and 3200 plus meter elevation. Both 30km and 60 km routes will have multiple cut-off points at various parts of the circuit, the details will be provided later once the registration process is completed. Yet, the maximum gun time that can be taken is limited to 12 hours.
There will be ample volunteering throughout the route to offer hydration and other aid to runners and of course, post-run refuelling will be available at the finishing point apart from medal and drop-off facilities, for those who have chosen such add-on services.
