TEDxPune 2023

TEDxPune is an independently organized TEDx event under the license of TED. Sharing the same spirit as TED, the day-long event focuses on bringing together contemporary ideas through short, powerful talks to inspire and spread new ideas.

Speakers this year -

* RJ Sangram: Sangram Khopade, aka RJ Sangram, has been India's esteemed Radio Jockey for two decades, securing 17 I.R.F. and RAPA awards for Best Radio Jockey. He's a Digital Historian of the Year and Guinness World Record holder. Besides radio, he's excelled as a Columnist, Podcaster, Magazine Editor, and Political Consultant. While his horse breeding venture didn't succeed, he's shone on MTV, NDTV, CNN IBN, and BBC, even featured on international stations like BBC London and Triple M Australia. Acting in Marathi films, a role in Mark Tully's 'India at 60' documentary, and hosting the top-rated political satire show on IBN Lokmat have solidified his legendary status in Marathi media.

* Mark Luckey: Mark Luckey, a CIO with two decades of tech outsourcing experience in India, also holds the title of a 4th Dan Sensei and former Australian National Karate Champion and Spartan Racer. He's a philosophy enthusiast, a hybrid work optimization expert, and now a Mental Fitness coach. Luckey offers a captivating perspective on building Mental Fitness Practices, suggesting it could be the key to saving the world. He encourages those embracing hybrid work to transform their routines for a more enjoyable life, delving into ancient wisdom, cutting-edge science, and the intriguing world of regular ice baths. * Dr. Prasanna Shirol: Dr. Prasanna Shirol, an Ashoka Fellow and Rare Disease Advocate since 2007, serves as the Co-founder and Executive Director of ORDI (Organization for Rare Diseases India). With extensive experience in Business Development at notable companies like Sony, Reliance, and Bharti, Dr. Shirol is a distinguished member of the rare disease community. He has also received the Rare Champion of Hope Award in 2019 from Global Gene in the USA, and he actively participates in various global initiatives, including the WHO Collaborative Global Network for Rare Diseases program (CGN4RD). Additionally, he holds roles as the President of the Pompe Foundation and an advisor to multiple non-profit organizations and companies in the rare disease field, both nationally and internationally.

* Dr. Nalini Saligram: Dr. Nalini Saligram, Ph.D., is the dynamic founder and CEO of Arogya World, a global health non-profit (arogyaworld.org) dedicated to combatting non-communicable diseases in India. An Ashoka Fellow and Indian Institute of Science Ph.D. holder, she champions disease prevention through public-private partnerships. Arogya World has garnered prestigious accolades, including the 2022 UN InterAgency Taskforce and WHO Award. Nalini's leadership has impacted over 9.3 million lives, employing scalable NCD prevention strategies. She envisions expanding reach, leveraging technology, and fostering health initiatives like Arogya City, while also supporting diabetes prevention research through Emory's Rollins School of Public Health.

* Jayesh Paranjape: Meet Jayesh Paranjape, the visionary founder of The Western Routes, a Pune-based travel company that weaves captivating journeys across India, blending elements of food, culture, history, nature, and wildlife into unforgettable experiences.

A Punekar at heart, Jayesh holds master's degrees in environmental science from Savitribai Phule Pune University and responsible tourism management from Leeds Beckett University. His insatiable wanderlust has led him to explore unique destinations worldwide, with a special focus on local cuisines.

Jayesh's passion for Pune's food history shines through as he curates cultural and food trails in the city. Through The Western Routes, he orchestrates food-themed tours, notably in Konkan, featuring experiences like the Mango Picking Tour, Popti Party, and the Konkan Culinary Trail.

Recognized as the Food Critic for Pune by Times of India in 2018, Jayesh shares his culinary adventures every Friday, offering tantalizing restaurant reviews in Pune Times. Prepare to be enthralled by his journey of flavors and cultural discoveries.

* Deepti Pahwa: Deepti Pahwa is a multifaceted professional, serving as an Innovation and Leadership Coach, Executive Education Coach at Stanford GSB LEAD, and Founding Partner at LISA (Stanford GSB Lead Incubator & Startup Accelerator). She's also an Advisor for DayOne MedTech Accelerator and a Jury & Mentor at Masschallenge. With extensive cross-industry experience, including her role as a former Chief Innovation Officer in Silicon Valley, Deepti has made significant contributions to the fields of innovation and brand strategy. Her book, "Trailblazer Founders: Breaking through Invisible Boundaries," is a top-ranked release in the Venture Capital category on Amazon, highlighting her expertise in entrepreneurship. Deepti's dedication to empowering founders and promoting diversity in entrepreneurship sets her apart as a true leader in her field.

* Gautam Bambawale: Gautam Bambawale, born November 2, 1958, is a seasoned Indian diplomat. He notably served as the Indian Ambassador to China and held positions including the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan. Bambawale, who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1984, boasts a rich career spanning roles in Hong Kong, Beijing, and at the Ministry of External Affairs. His experience includes diplomatic roles in Berlin, Washington, D.C., Guangzhou, and as Joint Secretary (East Asia) at the Ministry of External Affairs. He also served as the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan and the High Commissioner of India to Pakistan.

* Pratima Joshi: Pratima, a visionary, foresaw challenges in providing access to vital services like water, sanitation, and housing in India long before urban development was in focus. An architect with a zeal for equitable rights and resources, she founded Shelter Associates in 1993. With a Master's from Bartlett School of Architecture, she impacted over 1.5 million people, ensuring safe sanitation through community-driven projects. Her accolades include Infosys Foundation's Aarohan award in 2023, the U.N.-Habitat Honor Award in 2020, and Google Impact Challenge Finalist in 2013. Forbes India recognized her in their W-power list 2001, and she's a 'Google Earth Hero' awardee in 2009.
