Lets fight Coronavirus together
As the Coronavirus pandemic grips countries across the world, the healthcare systems of countries are already collapsing. So far, over 2,50,000 people have been infected by the virus and over 10,000 have lost their lives to it. As of now, we have two options: either we take appropriate measures now, or we will suffer a massive epidemic. In India, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, many around the country have been affected. We are facing emergency lockdowns to prevent the further spread of the disease. People in underprivileged communities are facing shortages of food, medicines, masks and dry rations. But the outbreak in India is still in its nascent stages as we have only had 200+ Coronavirus cases reported so far. If we don’t act fast, things may spiral out of control and we may face a crisis like Iran and Italy where the entire healthcare system is overwhelmed due to the disease.
We can stay safe by following preventive measures such as social distancing, maintaining proper hygiene and by spreading awareness about the virus.
What is Indian Runners doing?
As of now, we are in the middle of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has engulfed the entire world and is fast spreading in India. As the threat of this disease grows and puts further strain on communities, here are a few things Indian Runners is doing to help the community:
Indian Runners is helping individuals raise funds to create awareness and provide support to PM Cares fund being managed by Central Govt of India.
Keeping in mind the need for having a dedicated national fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected, a public charitable trust under the name of ‘Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund’ (PM CARES Fund)’ has been set up. Prime Minister is the Chairman of this trust and its Members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
All the funds raised in this campaign will be donated to PM CARES Fund.
How can you help?
With so much uncertainty and concern surrounding the recent novel coronavirus, it’s easy to feel helpless—but there is something we can all do to help the fight against it. You can start a fundraiser to help people get access to the emergency kits and support the families of victims who have difficulty coping with the current crisis. At an individual level, you can make care packages and distribute them within your community.
During the times of epidemics, the worst affected are often the vulnerable people of our society. These include the poor people like our maid, watchman, plumber, sanitary workers, etc. These are people who consistently risk their own safety to ensure our life functions smoothly.
Unfortunately, these people are also least prepared to defend themselves against emergencies like coronavirus. They may end up losing their jobs as the pandemic spreads further or they may get infected themselves. You can help them though!
Another way to give back to the community and help during the time of the COVID-19 crisis is to donate who are working on ground to stop further spread of this virus.
WHO Country Office for India (WCO) has also been working closely with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), on preparedness and response measures for COVID-19, including disease surveillance, laboratory and research protocols, risk communications, training on infection prevention and control (IPC) and cluster containment plan, surveillance and tracking of travellers.
