Session 1: Intellectual Property for Business & Value Creation

There is no doubt in the minds of business leaders that intellectual property (IP) provides great business and competitive advantage.  However, deriving value from their IP creations and investments is for most companies an unsolved puzzle.  With the increase in emphasis on IP in various business transactions ranging from selling products to providing services, organizations in India are now focusing on building IP portfolios that provide direct business value and competitive advantage.

Every start-up aspiring to make IP count for its business must set its IP strategy in the right direction.  With this as the premise, we’ll be conducting a training to help organizations identify, protect and leverage their IP.

The seminar is for Start-ups, SME's and Entrepreneurs from any sector where your products and services are driven by your innovation.  Key executive decision makers of such organizations responsible for business growth, strategy, and competitiveness are invited to attend.

Session 2: Getting a Patent Grant in #1 Year in India

Over the last two years, the IPO has granted several patents in under a year from the date of filing. Some of these grants have been extensively reported, one article claiming a grant in just four and half months. Some of BananaIP's filings received grants within a year, but the shortest was about seven months for Evlogia. The speedy grants spell the beginning of a new era of a proactive patent office, which is today relatively more transparent and organised than earlier.

The expedited grants were facilitated by changes in patent rules for certain applicants and patent applications, and some quick, crafty prosecution by patent attorneys. However, the patent process is just a part of speedening grants, and getting a grant requires much more than merely filing for expedited or express examination. Applications must relate to strong, inventive inventions, they must be put in proper order, and strategically drafted and filed. Under certain circumstances, getting a patent fast might prove to be counterproductive as well.
