Watercolor & Gouache Masterclass by Vidya Kumaresan

I am (@thewishingink) a Self taught artist from Namakkal and the founder of The Wishing Ink, which mainly focuses on making personalised handdrawn art. I specialize in hand lettering, Calligraphy, Water coloring and have two years of experience in Graphic designing as well.  I started learning hand lettering / calligraphy two years back and have been teaching the art for a while now. I love anything and everything that's handmade and believe in spreading good vibes through art.

Session 1 - Basics of Watercolors (2.5 hours)
- Introduction to Watercolours
- Tools and materials
- Exploring Watercolour Techniques - Simple, Gradient and variegated washes
- Exploring Watercolour Techniques - Wet on Dry, Wet on Wet and Negative space
- Simple Brush Strokes and Warm up exercises.

Session 2 - All about colours (2.5 hours)
- Introduction to Colour Theory
- Colour wheel : Primary, Secondary and Tertiary colours
- Cool colours and Warm colours
- Creating a colour chart.

Session 3 - Floral Composition (2.5 hours)
- Painting loose flowers and leaves
- Focal point, Balance and contrast
- Creating a floral composition
- Final Project and Discussions.

Session 4 - Basics with Gouache (2.5 hours)
-  Introduction to Gouache paints
- Gouache vs Watercolor vs Acrylic
- Tools and materials
- Paints and consistency
- Colour mixing and Layering
- Painting simple elements with gouache

Session 5 - Painting Botanicals (2.5 hours)
- Choosing and sketching florals using reference
- Creating a colour palette
- Tracing the sketch
- Layering the paints
- Final project and discussions

Materials required : (Watercolour session)
- 300gsm A4 or A5 cold pressed Watercolour papers or pad with max 10 sheets
- Artist Grade Watercolor paints with at least 12 colours max (can be tube or cake)
- Round Brush of Size 8 and 10
- Pencil, Eraser, Ruler
- Palette, Paper towel and cup with water.

Materials Required : (Gouache session)
- A4 or A5 Watercolour paper (Preferred choice : Hot pressed paper)
- Artist Grade gouache paints (Brustro, Pebeo, Daler Rowney, White night etc)
- Round Brush of size 0 and 4.
- Pencil, Eraser, Ruler
- Palette for colour mixing, Paper towel and Cup of water.
