History - Yoga Teacher Training Courses
Swami Vishnudevananda disciple of Swami Sivananda was the very first Yoga Master, in late 60s who went on feeling the need of Yoga Teacher Training Courses, to prepare Yoga Teachers. Even at that time he was quite aware that in near future societies will be having unhealthy hectic lifestyles and a greater need for Yoga. So considering all of this he went on developing a curriculum of Yoga Teacher Training course and in 1969, taught the very first Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training in Canada. To a certain extent it was the continuation of the Yoga Training program offered by Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy of Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh, India. Since then the Course has trained more than 50,000 certified Yoga Teachers to serve humanity as a whole.
Yoga education in India
Yoga was the Traditional education system of ancient India, where students and teachers live together in an ashram called Gurukula. Day to day life in Gurukula under the guidance of an experienced master was the perfect combination for students to get a transformative learning atmosphere to grow physically, mentally and spiritually. Over the period of time with many invasions to India, we lost it. Fortune turns around and once again Yoga is finding its way to the modern education system of India. There are many Universities, Colleges, Institutes and Schools not only offering different Yoga Courses but involved in research and development of Yogic science. These Courses include a one month certificate course to the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctorate Degrees in Yoga.
